I have always had a love of elephants, dating back to when I travelled to South Africa on safari in 2008. It was truly the most unbelievable experience in my life to be on a jeep in the middle of Kruger and tracking down the animals. We had a dangerous encounter with a herd of elephants and one that I will never forget –thankfully we all escaped unharmed! The elephant is such a beautiful animal and I have always had an obsession with them, so it seemed natural that I create an elephant themed party for my son!
I hit the internet and browsed endlessly to find inspiration for my invitation and party. You just have to type “elephant birthday party invites” in Google images and you will see hundreds of gorgeous elephant designs & images. The most prominent are the very cute styles of the elephant holding balloons in his trunk!

Now I am certainly no graphic designer by any means and simply create my own invitation designs in Microsoft Publisher for my kids parties. I came across a fabulous site called “Etsy” and there are heaps of graphic designers who sell their images for you to use. I also use iStock photo to purchase image files. I found a super cute elephant and bird image and purchased it online. It only cost me a few dollars and the image files got sent to my email inbox within 24-48 hours. I then printed the invites at home on my trusty Canon inkjet.
As I mentioned in a previous post, my love of blogs and dessert tables started some time ago and I regularly hit the websites and find inspiration for my kids parties on websites such as Google, Etsy and my most favourite of all… Pinterest! A place where you can create your very own online vision board. What started as being a mum planning a little kids party turned into an obsession for me to create the most amazing dessert table using ideas I had seen from here, there and everywhere! I never imagined in my wildest dreams that Lucas’ party would be featured ANYWHERE – let alone Amy Atlas (who I just emailed photos to get feedback on my styling, a service she provides, however they emailed me on Monday morning and asked if they could feature on the blog! WOW!)
I think the elephant party is just absolutely gorgeous and there are many stylists and party planners who have styled beautiful elephant parties. Click on the links below to see some of the blogs and websites where I sourced inspiration from include:
Style Me Gorgeous
Karas Party Ideas
Jenn Koehler
Party Perfect
Lulu’s
One Charming Party
You will see there are so many beautiful and different creations for inspiration! And this is just for an “elephant theme”, imagine if you searched by “princess party” or “pirate party” – just imagine all the ideas you could find!
There are an abundance of online party supply stores that you can buy products to create your gorgeous displays. Some on my favourites are Sweet Style, Sharnel Dollar Designs, Lily Chic Events & The Little Big Company to name a few. (You will see I have credited the vendors in my pictures where I got my goodies from) and they have some amazing ideas for events. There are also heaps of stores in the USA (if only postage wasn’t so expensive!)
For your invitations and party stationary, there are lots of fabulous graphic design companies where you can purchase all the printables for your party from. You don’t have to spend all your time fiddling around with designs and printing, cropping, sticking and pasting like I did. Many companies have an entire design range readily available for you to purchase online and they customise the name on the printables for you and email for you to take to your local printer or do yourself at home. They are affordable and best of all, provide a professional finish!
Some of the most adorable designs I have seen are from:
Style Me Gorgeous (who also have a gorgeous elephant range I was inspired by), Party Printables, as well as lots of little companies on Etsy.
The internet plays a huge part in helping us find inspiration in our lives that enables people to create amazing themes for their events. The ideas are endless. I look forward to finding lots more inspiration and creating gorgeous styled events, with my own personal touch on them!
I hope you enjoy the journey with me :)
